Department of Medical Genetics, SGPGI Lucknow, India, February 2017

I visited SGPGI (Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences) Lucknow from 14-16 February, where I was a guest of Professor Shubha Phadke in the Department of Medical Genetics. The department developed the first DM program in Medical Genetics in India. Its alumni are now heading departments all over the country. There is also a highly developed laboratory. For more information please see their website links as above.

The SGPGI has a beautiful campus, very quiet, with excellent security. Accommodation is provided to the residents on the campus. Altogether the atmosphere is very stimuating and conducive to study.

During my stay I did a clinic, where cases were presented by the postgraduate students, and gave a few lectures. Some pictures from the visit are attached.

I have had a lifelong interest in lysosomal storage disorders. Having recently retired I now have time to pursue my passion for teaching and training of young doctors and scientists, and hopefully instil in them the passion for their patients that is so integral to working in this field.
